OVER 250 YEARS COMBINED GROUP RISK EXPERIENCE ACROSS OUR TEAM

Our history

Group Risk experience that stretches back decades — and a business built to preserve specialist expertise as the market changed.

1977

The company is incorporated

The company that would later become Risk Assurance Management Limited was incorporated in October 1977, beginning the corporate history that continues today.

1980

Our Group Risk heritage begins

Members of the team who would later form RAM began working together in specialist Group Risk roles, building deep experience in underwriting, administration and broker relationships.

1996

The portfolio moves to Cornhill

Following an acquisition arrangement, the Group Risk portfolio and the specialist team responsible for it moved into Cornhill Insurance.

2001

Risk Assurance Management Limited is established

As Cornhill withdrew from life and pensions, senior members of the Group Risk team established RAM to preserve the specialist underwriting and administration capability they had built.
RAM initially continued providing outsourced services to Cornhill.

2002

The next phase begins

From April 2002, schemes began transferring at renewal to Pinnacle Insurance, with RAM continuing to provide the specialist underwriting and administration services behind the portfolio.
The business later transferred to Sterling Life, continuing RAM’s established model of working with insurance partners.

2005

RAM becomes FSA authorised

RAM became authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority, strengthening the regulatory foundations of the business as it continued to grow.
When the Financial Conduct Authority succeeded the FSA in 2013, RAM continued as an authorised and regulated firm.

2007

RAM becomes an approved Lloyd’s Coverholder

In April 2007, RAM became an approved Lloyd’s Coverholder, enabling the business to underwrite and administer Group Life business on behalf of underwriters at Lloyd’s of London.
Over the following years, RAM worked with a number of Lloyd’s Syndicates, including Tokio Marine Kiln, AXA XL and Beazley.

2024

The Shepherds Friendly partnership begins

RAM and Shepherds Friendly identified a strong alignment in approach, values and ambition, leading to the launch of the current Group Life partnership, with reinsurance provided by SiriusPoint.
This marked the beginning of the next stage of RAM’s development and growth.
