The process of bereavement is a highly personal and often traumatic event. Many people go through a range of recognisable reactions and emotions when someone they are close to passes away.

Grieving is the way we come to terms with bereavement. It's a natural process, about coming to terms with loss, and gradually changing the nature of the bonds that attached us to the person we have lost. We have to come to accept the situation and that's not an easy task.

Even when a death has been expected, grief can knock you off balance emotionally, physically and mentally. It is common to feel as though your world has fallen apart. You might have to deal with financial issues resulting from the loss or you may have to adapt to new routines which were previously shared with someone you have lost. Grieving is a personal and unique process, there are no right or wrong ways to grieve. How we react will be influenced by many different things, including our age and personality, or cultural background and religious beliefs, our previous experiences of bereavement, our circumstances and how we cope with loss, but there are ways of getting support and taking care of yourself that can ease your feelings of loss.

The Risk Assurance Management bereavement and probate helpline is provided by Health Assured. The service offers you support through the bereavement process in a safe, secure and confidential environment.

The service has been designed to support our clients with any difficulties or challenges they are facing in work or home life in the event that a bereavement is suffered, including help with probate matters. Through this service, callers can talk to a professional counsellor about their situation in a safe, secure and confidential environment.

What are the opening times of the service?

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Who will answer my call and will it be confidential?

Calls will be answered by a fully trained and qualified counsellor who will provide initial emotional support. Should it be needed, calls will be referred to additional advisors according to each specific requirement from each call. All calls are treated in the strictest of confidence and in line with The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) code of ethics.

The only time confidentiality may ever be broken is if there is a belief that the caller or a third party is in significant physical danger.

How much support is available?

There is no limit on the number of times a member or his/her family can call for help & support.

Can Clients Upgrade The Product?

Yes. RAM is able to upgrade a client's product to a full Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).

An EAP is a personal support programme that can greatly assist employers and their staff to achieve a positive balance in life. The service gives unlimited access to a range of specialist support and information including:

This product is available to all RAM clients and will be charged at a rate per member, per year. The client should opt for this product at the time of going on risk with RAM or at renewal.
